Sub: Regarding Maggie and
her mother’s superstitious belief
Dear Friend,
I recently read The
Price of Flowers and was fascinated by the superstitious beliefs of Maggie
and her mother. They strongly believe in the power of the crystal ring. Maggie
wears the ring because she believes that it can bring good luck and help her
communicate with her brother Frank, who is away at war. Her mother also shares
similar beliefs and attaches great importance to the ring. These beliefs show
how people often depend on superstitions when they are anxious about their
loved ones and uncertain about the future.

Subject: The need to
strengthen family relationships
Sir/Madam,
Through the columns of
your newspaper, I would like to draw attention to the growing need to
strengthen family relationships. Today, busy work schedules and excessive
dependence on digital devices often prevent family members from spending
quality time together.
Family bonding provides
children with emotional security, love and a sense of belonging. Parents should
therefore make time for their children and encourage open communication.
Families should eat together, share their experiences and participate in activities
together. Schools and communities can also promote programmes that highlight
the importance of family values.
Strong family
relationships create emotionally healthy and responsible individuals. I request
your newspaper to create greater public awareness about the importance of
spending quality time with family.
Yours faithfully,
A Concerned Citizen

27. Prepare a travel
essay based on a two-day trip to a famous tourist spot in Kerala.
Answer:
A Memorable Journey to
Munnar
Last month, our class
went on a two-day trip to Munnar, one of the most beautiful tourist
destinations in Kerala. We started our journey early in the morning with great
excitement. As we approached Munnar, the scenery became more attractive. Green
hills, tea plantations, waterfalls and winding roads welcomed us.
Munnar has a cool and
pleasant climate. The mist-covered mountains and endless tea gardens create a
wonderful atmosphere. We visited the tea plantations and enjoyed the beautiful
landscape. We also visited some important tourist attractions and took photographs
with our friends.
During the second day, we
explored more of the area and enjoyed the natural beauty of the hills. The
fresh air and peaceful surroundings helped us forget our daily worries. We
spent time talking, singing and sharing memorable moments with our classmates.
The trip was a wonderful
combination of learning, enjoyment and friendship. When we returned home, we
were tired but extremely happy. The beautiful memories of Munnar will remain
with us for a long time.
28. Prepare a critical
appreciation of the poem “What is Success?” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Answer:
Critical Appreciation of
“What is Success?”
Ralph Waldo Emerson's
poem “What is Success?” presents a meaningful and inspiring definition of
success. The poet does not measure success by wealth, fame or material
achievements. Instead, he connects success with happiness, respect, love,
appreciation and service to others.
The poem suggests that a
successful person should be able to laugh often, earn the respect of
intelligent people and receive the affection of children. The poet also
emphasises appreciating beauty and discovering the best qualities in other
people.
One of the most important
ideas in the poem is that our lives should make the world a better place. Even
a small contribution, such as raising a healthy child, creating a garden or
improving society, can give meaning to life.
The poem concludes with
the idea that true success is knowing that at least one person's life became
easier or happier because of our existence. Thus, Emerson presents success as a
life of love, goodness, service and positive influence rather than material
achievement.
